[Blaze had left numerous handwritten reports during his time as Guardian in Attleton during his terms. Amidst these reports were a few about the Midnight Channel subarchway, the gate opened by Tohru Adachi. Included amongst these was a list of names that he gave sole legal permission to enter the subarchway without needing to get the approval of the Guardian's Office first, a personal recounting of his personal experience with his own Shadow, and a small report on potential dangers found within the subarchway. All to the best of his knowledge, he by no means has extensive knowledge on the archway at large.]
[MC01 - Permitted Entry]
Below are the names of Genessia citizens who are permitted entry into the "Midnight Channel" without prior approval from the Guardian of Attleton. These people are aware of the dangers of the subarchway and know how to handle what lurks there. Under no circumstances are people not named on this list allowed entry, and anyone caught entering without prior approval will result in legal action from the Guardian's Office, including but not limited to fines or jail time.
* Denotes that these people are experienced with the subarchway in their home world, and if so choose are able to advise the Guardian's Office on any additional names that may be placed on this list in the future. Guardian approval is still required.
- Blaze
- Dante Sparda
- Akihiko Sanada*
- Yukiko Amagi*
Under no circumstances should the man named Tohru Adachi, or anyone directly known to be an associate of him, be allowed entry to the subarchway, nor should he be allowed in the vicinity. Further details available on this in report MC02.
[MC02 - Known Dangers]
The Midnight Channel, also referred to as the "TV World" is another dimension shrouded in thick fog. Creatures known as "Shadows" lurk here and come in many different forms. Each of these Shadows are extremely aggressive and are highly dangerous, and can pose a threat to anyone who are unprepared. These Shadows can take the forms of creatures including, but not limited to- Birds, spectral knights, slime or blob-like masses, humanoids and several other kinds of monstrous forms that may have yet to be seen. Shadows can also take the form of humans (or other sentient beings) with golden, glowing eyes and act as the personification of the person's darkest and most well-hidden secrets. These particular Shadows are more dangerous than the others, and can become berserked and a much larger threat should its target deny anything it says. Shadows found in this subarchway will not hesitate to attack and kill. Even those named on report MC01 should exercise extreme caution when entering. Many Shadows appear to be capable of various kinds of elemental magic, and others of high physical power.
People who enter this subarchway will quickly become fatigued due to some unknown energy, and staying in the subarchway for too long even without encountering Shadows may find themselves exhausted and potentially bedridden for days upon leaving. Some with an ability known as a "Persona" are not affected by this and can stay in the subarchway without hindrance. Persona wielders appear to be from the native world that the Midnight Channel is connected to. [There appears to be smudged eraser marks over what the rest of what followed this sentence used to be. Possibly a note that Blaze chose best to reverse and not allow its knowledge to be known.] Select people who may have a more inhuman nature may be able to resist the affects of the subarchway as well.
If thrown into the Midnight Channel against their will, the victim involved will be unable to find a way out on their own and must be rescued by an outside party. The world is known to twist and change itself to something more meaningful to the victim's psyche, and this puts the victim at risk of encountering a Shadow of themselves, as listed above. They can be rescued safely should they accept what the Shadow claims about them - if denied, the Shadow may take on a dangerous form to attack the victim and potentially kill them if no help has arrived beforehand.
Despite the dangers inside, Shadows appear to follow the same rules as all beings that reside within subarchways, in that they cannot leave of their own accords and venture into Genessia's cities. The aid of someone with a pendant is the only way they should prove a significant threat to Attleton itself.
The Midnight Channel was directly used in a kidnapping incident in March of 2016. Most victims involved were rescued safely, but at least one death occurred following their unwilling entry into the subarchway. The subarchway was opened by Tohru Adachi, who was also the perpetrator of the kidnappings.
MC03 contains a personal account of what happened following being forced into the Midnight Channel, as I, myself, was one of the victims of that incident.
[MC03 - Personal Recounting]
Having a personal account of what happened to me on record will be wise to have for the future, to serve as a warning for future Guardians and Deputies of what may happen to anyone who finds themselves in the Midnight Channel. I still remember the incident clearly, even though it happened three months ago as of the day of writing this. Adachi is gone, but the subarchway is still open, and still poses a very real threat until the day that it closes. Keeping citizens out of the subarchway for their safety served a large part in why I ran for Guardian, because I know what happened to me in there, and I can only imagine something similar happened to everyone else there. I consider myself lucky for being rescued when I was by Akihiko Sanada and Troy Dantes. I was able to have a magic barrier placed in front of the subarchway for a short time to keep people out thanks to Levy McGarden, but her departure meant the barrier is gone. Keeping an eye on this place is a must in order to prevent this kind of incident from happening again.
Adachi was an associate of mine at the Genessia City Library, where we both worked. I never suspected any ill intention from him, so my comfort around him as my peer made me an easy target for him. He struck me while I was occupied, but I was able to see his face before he knocked me unconscious entirely. I think I may have been one of his first victims, but I can't be certain.
When I woke, I was in a place that was familiar to me, albeit a twisted visage of what little I could recognize. I was in the wreckage of a sunken aircraft carrier, one that I knew all too well. I served in my home country's military, but for the latter half of my service I was aboard the aircraft carrier OFS Kestrel. After my final sortie from that ship, it was sunk. The Midnight Channel had taken the form of what I'm certain was the Kestrel's wreckage, but it was infested with those Shadow creatures and the dense fog made it difficult to navigate the hull easily. There was no flooding to speak of, despite being able to see the ocean from inside the wreckage, but I fear that could have happened if I were trapped there any longer.
I couldn't find an exit. I found my way to the Kestrel's hangar and there was a decaying F-14 there, in my squadron's colors and with my code on the nose. I managed to avoid the other Shadows up to this point, but I saw one on the F-14's wing. I was staring directly at myself, only with those golden eyes.
It spoke of everything I never wanted to hear, feelings and thoughts I'd tried to hide away from even myself. It could read me like an open book- because it was me. It was the embodiment of everything I never wanted to acknowledge, everything I tried to hide from everyone I met. So much of it had to do with the war I was a part of - the war I was on the front lines of for the entirety of. So much of it were feelings I needed to hide away because I was a squadron leader.
Despite the truth it spoke, everything about my Shadow was sinister, like it was trying to provoke me. Like it wanted me to deny everything it said.
Akihiko and Troy were the ones who came to my rescue. Akihiko knew what I was seeing, and told me that it was a part of me. The entire place was a manifestation of myself, my experiences, and what I wanted to hide away. I had two options- either I accepted that it was a part of me, or deny everything that it said and, as result, would become stronger. Strong enough to potentially kill me and take my place.
Accepting everything my Shadow said was what I needed to do. I won't pretend it was easy. I still didn't want to accept what it said, but I knew what it said was true. I don't know what would have happened if Akihiko and Troy weren't there, but knowing what I was facing, I was able to accept it. Once I was able to do that, the Shadow had changed its form, into a more benevolent being, one of those "Persona."
I owe Akihiko and Troy my life for that day. They were able to get me out of there, and alive, but I wasn't able to work for several days because of the fatigue brought on by the Midnight Channel. Adachi had managed to escape justice due to being sent home shortly after the kidnappings. As far as I'm concerned, he's a wanted man if he returns and steps into Attleton again.
With that Persona, I was able to travel through the Midnight Channel without having the fatigue that plagued me before, and with Akihiko's guidance I learned to control it, so that I was able to patrol the subarchway to make sure that no one else had to go what I had to go through, and what everyone else who was kidnapped did. I just hope this doesn't happen again, whether under my watch or under the watch of a future Guardian that takes my place. The Midnight Channel is not to be taken lightly.
